چکیده

An ergonomical evaluation of a multimodal windows-oriented interface that gives blind and "visually occupied" persons access to graphical user interfaces. Physical models are used to represent interface features providing haptic informations, thanks to a force-feedback device, and nonspeech audio. In the absence of vision, both auditory and haptic modalities are used, to perform manipulation tasks. Three conditions were compared: sound feedback alone, force feedback alone and bimodal feedback. Measures of usability were timing, error rates with subjective satisfaction. Results from the experiment show that multimodality was associated with better performance for blind and sighted subjects and that it is ranked as the best interface.

Investigating the Level of Observing the Evaluation Criteria for User Interface in library services providing to the blind and deaf users in the word

Purpose: Digital library user interfaces has a determining role in desirable performance of this kind of libraries. Digital Library service providers to the blind and deaf users will have their best performance when the users (deaf and blind users) could have a proper interaction with them. This study aims to evaluate and analyze the criteria related to user interface in digital libraries servi...

Design and Evaluation of 3D Multimodal Virtual Environments for Visually Impaired People

Spatial information presented visually is not easily accessible to visually impaired users. Current technologies, such as screen readers, cannot intuitively convey spatial layout or structure. This lack of overview is an obstacle for a visually impaired user, both when using the computer individually and when collaborating with other users. With the development of haptic and audio technologies,...

Multimodal User Interface Design Increasing Accessibility to Mathematics For Blind students

The project investigates the potential benefits of multimodal user interfaces for blind students. A multimodal user interface uses the combination of two or more different human senses to interact with computers. The work focused on finding the needs of the interaction model for blind students by using different human modalities, so that they perceive and control information in efficient and ef...

Configurable Design of Multimodal Non Visual Interfaces for 3D VE's

3D virtual environments (VE) require an advanced user interface to fully express their information contents. New I/O devices enable the use of multiple sensorial channels (vision, hearing, touch, etc.) to increase the naturalness and the efficiency of complex interactions. Haptic and acoustic interfaces extend the effective experience of virtual reality to visually impaired users. For these use...

Developing Sounds for a Multimodal Interface: Conveying Spatial Information to Visually Impaired Web Users

A multimodal browser plug-in, with audio and haptic feedback, has been developed to explore how basic concepts in spatial navigation can be conveyed to web users with visual impairments. In this paper, the second version of an audio interface for this plug-in is described in terms of its development and integration with haptic feedback. This version of the system was evaluated within a collabor...
